TRAIN MY DOG

For veterans in Saint Paul or suburbs east of Saint Paul who already have a dog

Train My Dog (Veterans)

This program is only for U.S. military veterans who live in Saint Paul or a suburb east of Saint Paul (the East Metro Twin Cities). We help eligible veterans train their own dog with our guidance. There is no cost to the veteran for this program.

Your dog stays with you. Training happens through regular in-person sessions in the veteran’s home, along with consistent daily practice between visits. This is a coach-guided, owner-trained program. We do not offer board-and-train, and we do not train the dog without the veteran’s direct involvement.

If you are a U.S. military veteran who lives in Saint Paul or a suburb east of Saint Paul, have a disability-related need for a service dog, and already have a dog, you may be eligible to apply. To be eligible, the household must have only one dog during the training process. Dogs must meet temperament and health requirements, which we assess as part of the intake process. Not every dog is a good candidate for service dog training, even with professional guidance.

Training is a multi-month process and is not appropriate for situations requiring immediate assistance.

Please include your city of residence, your service history, and basic information about your dog. We will let you know whether this program may be a good fit and what next steps would look like.

Because training capacity is limited and eligibility depends on multiple factors, not every inquiry will result in acceptance.
